TRVL Journal: Nelson, British Columbia

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over the town, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the day's experiences. Nelson offered not just adventure and excitement but also moments of tranquility and connection.

Nestled within the captivating embrace of the Kootenay Rockies lies the enchanting town of Nelson, BC. With its breathtaking mountain vistas, serene lakes, and vibrant community spirit, Nelson attracts adventurers and seekers of natural beauty alike.

Our day began at our beautiful Airbnb with a stretching session and then a drive across the iconic BOB, the Big Orange Bridge, a towering structure that spans the expanse of Kootenay Lake. From its heights, we were treated to panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the shimmering waters below. This historic bridge, a landmark of Nelson, provided not only a scenic route but also a sense of connection to the natural beauty that defines the region.

Eager for a good cup of coffee, we made our way to Empire Cafe, a cozy haven nestled in the heart of downtown Nelson. Here, amidst the inviting ambiance and warm hospitality, we indulged in more than just coffee. Locally sourced ingredients and artisanal craftsmanship can be found in every bite here - not to mention the lake view from the greenhouse side of the cafe.

After coffee we set out for Whitewater Ski Resort. Nestled amidst the rugged peaks of the Selkirk Mountains, this world-class resort offered an array of terrain suitable for all skill levels. Every turn on this mountain is feel good – and the lack of lift lines. And beyond the adrenaline rush of snowboarding, the pristine beauty of the surrounding landscape served as a reminder of nature's awe-inspiring power.

As midday approached, we sought respite from the cold in the welcoming embrace of a nearby lodge. Here, we were treated to a taste of Nelson's culinary prowess with the famed Glory Bowl, a nutritious and delicious dish that has become synonymous with the town's dining scene. Each ingredient, carefully selected and thoughtfully prepared, spoke to the town's commitment to wholesome living and sustainable practices.

With appetites satisfied and spirits high, we meandered through the streets of downtown Nelson, where history and creativity converged in a vibrant tapestry of sights and sounds. Quaint boutiques, art galleries, and charming cafes beckoned, inviting us to linger and explore.
